I just received a copy of this email. As you will read, the owner of two car dealerships in my city of Fredericton NB has decided to start a major fundraising effort to help the people of Haiti — Please pass it on!

Subject: I Need Your Help!
I have sent this e-mail to you to let you know about a major fundraising effort that we are undertaking at our two companies, Fredericton Hyundai and O’Leary Pontiac Buick GMC.
As many of you know, my father and our businesses have been doing missionary and support work in both Haiti and Africa for many years. Over this time, nearly all of my family has been to Haiti at least once, and my father has been there many, many times. We own a 3 story building in Jacmel, Haiti that housed a children’s orphanage for a number of years and we still have friends in Haiti. Obviously, we are very shaken by the earthquake and its effect on this tiny nation.
When you see on CNN that Haiti is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere, it still doesn’t begin to explain to us as Canadians how poor these people really were to begin with. Most of the things that we take for granted, like heat, shelter, water and food, weren’t readily available to most Haitians before this catastrophe, and they certainly aren’t available now.
According to all the news sites this morning, the death toll is completely unknown, but the 100,000 number is the most common “guess-timate”. I can tell you this from being there and seeing for myself, if there were 100,000 people killed during the earthquake, there will be hundreds and hundreds of thousands more die over the next month if the rest of the world doesn’t get these people food and water.
Starting today, we are going to do everything we can to ensure that as many of these poor people as possible get the essentials that they need to survive.
We are asking for donations from everyone who would like to help save a life. Every cent counts. We are asking everyone to please give at least $5, but if all you can afford is $1, then please donate that.
Here are the details:
1. Our goal is to raise $100,000 in the next week. Why so much so quick? Because they need this money for food and water NOW, not a month from now.
2. We are going to donate the first $10,000 in order to get this fundraising effort going.
3. Every cent donated will go directly to Haiti for food and water. Because of the time we have spent there and the friends that we have, we absolutely 100% guarantee this.
4. Donations can be made by calling or visiting either of our dealerships
a. Fredericton Hyundai, 1165 Hanwell Road in Fredericton. Phone 506-450-0800
b. O’Leary Pontiac Buick GMC, 1135 Hanwell Road in Fredericton. Phone 506-453-7000.
5. Our dealerships are open Monday and Thursday 8am to 8pm, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday 8am – 6pm and 9am to 1pm on Saturday.
6. Donations need to be made to the Manna Care Foundation. Tax receipts will be issued.
So, I really need you to do a couple of things for me if you can.
First, give something. Give anything. If all you can spare is a loonie, we will take it and it will help save a life.
Secondly, forward this e-mail to everyone in your contacts.
All of us here in little old New Brunswick can save THOUSANDS of lives, but these people need our help and they need it now.
Thank you for any help that you can give,
O’Leary Pontiac Buick GMC
